Royal Dutch Shell’s Nigerian operation

So according to this article, http://www.alternet.org/workplace/140260/the_video_shell_oil_desperately_doesn%27t_want_you_to_see/, which I found at Alternet, once again Big Oil is corruptly enforcing imperialist economic policies upon its constituents in the area. The people of Nigeria are seen here being abused by Royal Dutch Shell, and I think the case is pretty clear as to how big business operates overseas. With cheap labor, much of which is disposable (in a way), and with the consent of the usually corrupt and desperate government of the area (see Nigeria), large companies can export their business to third-world countries. The governments of those countries are more than happy to see some money enter their boarders, and the result is a regime, as well as a major company, oppressing its people. This is but one example, sadly.

That being said, this is why I can’t support capitalism. For all it’s hype and praise, there’s always somebody taking advantage of other human beings, and I think that’s disgusting.

  1. Which economic system do you prefer?

  2. Why would you delete my response? I’m just trying to find out what economic system you prefer or would suggest as an alternative to capitalism, in reference to your comment that you cannot support it due to the inevitable exploitation of humans that results from it.

  3. To be honest, I suppose that in saying I can’t support it, I guess I mean that I just despise it. I’ve thought about that very same question, and there really is no other economic system (that works) that can compete with capitalism, and likewise nothing beyond an ideal world probably ever will come up with an alternative. So to answer your question, I hate capitalism and prefer capitalism as the best economic system. :)

ps. I didn’t delete your comment, I just forgot to approve it.
